The ‘rules’ of a money free weekend are simple. No spending money on anything beyond your regular bills. So, that means no running to the grocery store, no going to the movies or signing up for Netflix allowed!

1. Check the Local Calendar
Your local newspaper or community website is an awesome source of information on events being held in your area. The majority of these are going to be free, and you can plan out some of your money free weekends around them.
2. High School Sports
All year round there are going to be all sorts of free sporting events you can attend for your local high school. Spend a summer Friday night watching a baseball game or a Saturday football game.
3. Head Outdoors
There’s a very good chance you live a short drive from a local state park or forest. These parks are usually free, and you can spend the day hiking. If you reside in a city, take a stroll in a park or around your neighborhood.
4. Volunteer
What can be better than saving money and doing some good? Try working in some volunteer time to your money free weekend. More often than not, local religious institutions, libraries, and shelters are happy for volunteers.
5. Visit a Museum or Zoo
All around the country most museums and zoos will offer ‘free’ days where members of the public can visit at no cost. This is the perfect activity to keep on your calendar to plan for future money free weekends.
6. Take Care of Back Burner Tasks
Chances are there are all sorts of things you’ve meant to do. That could be anything from organizing your bills to fixing your will. Take a few hours on one of these weekends to take care of items you’ve been putting off.
7. “Spring” Cleaning
No matter what time of year it is, you can devote time to cleaning up things around your house. And, as an added bonus, you can make money later by selling these items in a yard sale or even online.
8. Family Game Day
Gather round the family, turn off the tv, and hide the smart phones. Instead of being distracted by technology, spend some quality time together. Grab a deck of cards and pull out the board games for hours of fun.
9. Spend Time on a Hobby
Most people they have hobbies they enjoy but often fall by the wayside because of time constraints. Devote some time to your hobbies like reading, learning to knit, practicing a new language, or playing the guitar.
10. Binge Watch
Sometimes life is too busy during the week to catch your favorite shows or movies. On a rainy weekend day, there might be nothing better than making some popcorn and spending a few hours watching your favorite shows.
