Everyone loves a state fair. How can you not? There’s music, food (it’s ok to break your diet for just one day), rides, games, and events all in one spot.
Is it any wonder that in so many areas the state fair is one of the biggest events on the map?
California is no different. In fact, you should expect that one of the largest states in the union would have some epic fairs. Well, you wouldn’t be wrong with that guess!
In this post, you will find some of our favorite California state fairs – Each one offering all sorts of different flavors and flair. So, don’t miss any of them!
The California State Fair
You can’t start any post on California state fairs without including the big daddy of them all. It first began in 1854 and has been going strong since then. You’ll find the California State Fair in Sacremento at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds every July.
The goal of this fair is to celebrate everything California has to offer in one place. From the snowy mountaintops to the sandy beaches and wine country to the Inland Empire. You’ll find a vast assortment of events and activities including live music, farm tours, and competitions featuring everything from craft brews to olive oils, and of course, wine!
Check the calendar for themed days and events including fireworks, military appreciation, wiener dog races, and motocross.
The California Mid State Fair
Paso Robles is in the heart of San Luis Obispo County, known for it’s easy to access beaches, wine vineyards, and olive groves. So, it makes an excellent location for one of the most popular California state fairs. The California Mid State Fair offers all the best of the incredible region between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Once there, visitors will be treated to all sorts of events and activities to explore. Some of the favorites include the various exhibits on display. These range from industrial arts to flower care to tractor restoration and home brewing.
There will also be horse shows as well as livestock events to highlight the agricultural importance of the region. Plus you’ll find a huge selection of carnival rides and other family-friendly features like petting zoos and demonstrations.
Alameda County Fair
Pleasanton, California is just across the Bay from San Francisco. Here, you’ll find the Alameda County Fair which is one of the most popular in all of Northern California. It runs for just over two weeks from the middle of June to early July.
At the Alameda County Fair, you’ll be treated to all sorts of activities. You’ll find your traditional carnival rides and musical events to start. But there are also tons of competitions, an action sports arena, and horse racing events for the duration of the fair.
And, of course, you can’t forget about the food. One of the biggest highlights of this fair is it has all sorts of cooking demonstrations from top chefs all around the country. Bring your appetite!
Of course, there are dozens of fairs all over California, but these are three you don’t want to miss. Spend your summer enjoying everything these fairs have to offer, you won’t regret it!
