Most people think that travel and spontaneity don’t always go together. After all, to really enjoy a vacation and see the “best” of everything out there, you need to plan, plan, plan.
In fact, adding a little spontaneity into your travels, even those well planned trips, can add a lot of fun and even some new memories. Even if you are not spontaneous by nature, or feel like you want to make the most out of any trip you’re on, there is always time to add a little bit of unexpected to you plans.
There is plenty of fun to be had during your time off, even over a weekend. So think about how you can add a few spontaneous travel ideas to your summer with a couple of helpful tips.
Try a Road Trip
One of the best spontaneous travel ideas you can try is doing a road trip. Keep in mind, not all road trips mean packing up the car and the kids for two weeks exploring the National Parks. Instead, hop in the car and drive for two or three hours.
Work in a Free Day
Even if you have a pre-planned vacation all set, try working in a day where you have nothing planned. This will give you the opportunity to spend a day relaxing by the pool, or you can choose to check out an attraction you were interested in checking out.
Check in With Locals
More often than not, locals will have all the best tips and advice on things to explore in an area off the beaten path. When you are on vacation in a new place, ask a few of the locals what some of their favorite places to eat and attractions are. You’ll likely find a few hidden gems.
One of the keys to being able to jump on any new opportunities you might come upon is packing light. This is especially true if you’re out on a road trip, or even a short weekend trip exploring. Having a small bag packed with a few snacks can allow you to enjoy any spontaneous moment that comes your way.
Get Out and Wander
There is no better way to embrace spontaneous travel than to just wander around and see what you find. No matter where you are in the world, from the biggest cities to the beautiful countryside, you will learn quite a bit by simply just exploring on foot.
The next time you’re thinking about going on a vacation, or dreaming about getting away for a little bit consider adding a little bit of spontaneity to your trip. There is so much you can do to add unexpected touches that can end up making a huge difference.
