Traveling solo is one of the biggest adventures you can take. It can be a bit scary but also very exhilarating at the same time. There are a ton of benefits anyone can get from traveling solo, and it can actually be a lot less expensive than you think. You’d be surprised at some of the ways you can travel solo on a budget.
Let’s take a look at five tips.
Pick Cheaper Travel Days
One of the biggest benefits of traveling solo is your schedule is up to you. That means you can have a bit more flexibility when you go. So when planning out your trip consider going during a shoulder season when prices are much less expensive. Also think about traveling during the middle of the week when flights are cheaper as opposed to over the weekends.
Eat at the Bar
Think you’re stuck eating from food trucks or grocery stores when you are traveling alone? Not so fast. One of the best places to find a good deal on both food and drink are at restaurant bars. Not only is a restaurant bar a great place to grab a seat for one (and be able to grill the bartender on favorite hot spots to visit), but many of them will have specials that run during certain times of the day or week.
Pick up Water and Snacks
Another way to save money during the day is to carry your own water bottle and snacks with you. This will come in handy, especially in expensive cities, when you might be able to sit in a park and enjoy a banana or energy bar in the middle of the day. Plus, since it’s so important to stay hydrated when traveling, keep your water bottle handy, you can save quite a bit over the course of trip if you don’t need to buy water a few times a day.
Use Transportation Passes
Many major cities around the world will offer special tickets for tourists and visitors who are in the area for the first time. Usually these passes will give you unlimited travel on local public transport over a certain amount of time, ranging from 3 days to a week. These are always a good idea to grab, they will allow you to save a ton of money on taxis, and you can use the transport to explore the area.
Find the Free Days
In most cities a number of tourist attractions like museums will have certain days or hours of the week where admission is either free or greatly reduced from it’s normal price. Another thing to keep an eye out for are cities which offer free movies or concerts during the summer months in local parks. With a little bit of planning, you can see a number of attractions in your target city for a fraction of the price that you normally might.
Use some of these tips and you will be able to travel solo on a budget with no problems on your next vacation.
