It’s probably not too hard to find a margarita at a local bar on Cinco de Mayo. But if you really want to go all out, check out one of the fantastic fiestas in these cities.
Believe it or not, Denver is actually home to one of the largest Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the country—around 40,000 people head here every year to enjoy the fun. It’s free to attend and kicks off with a parade. There’s also chihuahua races, a taco-eating contest, a lowrider car show, music, comedy, and dance performances, and free Zumba classes.

I hit the huge annual decades old San Antonio Fiesta today, in historic Mexican Market Square. After eating right & working out Sunday through Thursday, I pigged out on a comfort foodies cheat meal. The 12 inch “Machete” (name per shape) 3 corn tacos in 1, steak with avocado sauce, choices of steak pork or chicken. And yum big refreshing 100% watermelon juice, with Mexican cookies/pastries (sampled each/saved half for next weekend). #annual #sanantoniofiesta #historic #famous #mexicanfood #comfortfood #cheatmeal #machete #tacos #meat #avocado #vegetables #watermelonjuice #drink #cookies #pastries #dessert #marketsquare #newbraunfels #sanantonio #sanmarcos #gruene #bulverde #boerne #springbranch #texas
You can pretty much take your pick of Cinco celebrations here, but the biggest one happens in San Antonio‘s bustling Market Square. Beginning on Friday, May 3, and continuing all weekend long is a block party full of music, food, arts, and crafts. On Sunday, a mariachi competition spices things up.
There’s so much going on in Albuquerque for Cinco de Mayo, you can easily take your pick from the many events. One of the major draws is the Folk Art Fest. It features more than 40 artists and an umbrella decorating contest. The Traditions! Folklorico Dance Spectacular hosts performances from local groups, and 50Cinco de Mayo brings together some of the hottest names in Latin hip-hop—including Baby Bash and Frankie J—for a concert.

Check out Cinco de Mayo West, a large party in the Twin Cities area. Perhaps the most unique part of the festival is the “El Grito” (The Scream) contest. It sees competitors giving their best, most enthusiastic shout for the chance to win a cash prize. There’s also a live Lucha Libre match, courtesy of Minnesota Independent Wrestling.
