When you look up the best art museums in the United States, you mostly see the same few being named. But there are many more out there, equally worthy and waiting for your love and admiration. We’d love to lead you to them. 

In this post, we have picked out some of the very best art museums located in the Northeast.

The Yale University Art Gallery located in New Haven, Connecticut, is comprised of several different collections housed throughout Yale University campus buildings. Although there are many cultures and periods displayed, the galleries mainly focus on early Italian paintings, African sculptures, and modern art.

The Portland Museum of Art is considered the cultural heart of Portland, Maine. Any and every artistic happening in the community takes place here, from films and talks to special events and family activities. The PMA features many American, European, and contemporary art pieces, as well as iconic works from Maine.

If you’re visiting the Inner Harbor area, then you’re only about three miles from the Baltimore Museum of Art, founded in the early 1900s. 

Pop over and say hello. Greats news- admission is free! They believe everyone should experience the power of art. 

The 210,000-square-foot museum is easy to spot. It’s a historic building designed in the 1920s by renowned American architect John Russell Pope with two beautifully landscaped gardens out front, featuring 20th-century sculptures.

The Currier Museum of Art features paintings, decorative arts, photographs and works from an array of well-known artists including LeWitt, Money, O’Keeffe, and Picasso. It is an internationally renowned art museum.

There are studio workshops and classes available for all ages, and even tours of the Zimmerman House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Post-Impressionism followed with painter such as Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin.
