Everybody knows that the best barbecue is in the deep south. And within the deep south, many of the top spots are in the state of Alabama. It doesn’t matter where you go; you’re never too far from some amazing food.
Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q (Decatur)
There’s something a little different at this down-home eatery. More specifically, their unique white sauce that you won’t find anywhere else—order it on a chicken filet sandwich or platter for maximum deliciousness. If you’re having a craving across the country, you can even have Big Bob’s specialties delivered right to your doorstep!
Moe’s Original Bar B Que (Mobile)
Yes, it’s now a chain, but it all started right in Mobile, and the food is still amazing. Start things off with Moe’s Nachos with pulled smoked chicken or pork, then go big with a platter of the smoked meat of your choice (turkey, chicken, pork, or sausage) with cornbread and two sides.
Dreamland Bar-B-Que (Tuscaloosa)
Touted far and wide for their delectable ribs, Dreamland lives up to its name with food that’s the stuff of fantasy, including sides like mac and cheese, potato salad, and baked beans. Whatever you order, save room for the banana pudding. While the original is in Tuscaloosa, you’ll find outposts in Mobile, Huntsville, Northport, Montgomery, Southside, and Highway 280.
Carlile’s Barbecue (Birmingham)

Tuesday Tip “Instead of placing a chicken on a roasting rack, cut thick slices of onion, put them in an oiled pan, then place the chicken on top. The onion will absorb the chicken juices. After roasting, let the chicken rest while you make a sauce with the onions by adding a little stock or water to the pan and cooking it for about 3 minutes on high heat.” Chef John . . . . #tuesdaytips #nothingisordinary #myfab5 #f52grams #dailyfoodfeed #lovefood #eatingfortheinsta #flatlay #spoonfeed #huffposttaste #infatuation #buzzfeast #feedyoursoull #cheatmeal #tastingtable #heresmyfood #eater #eattheworld #foodandwine#foodblogfeed #foodandwine #alabama #instagrambham #igersusa #bham #americandream #loves_united_states #canonphotos #canonrebel #canonphotographer
Carlile’s has been around since 1945, making it a Birmingham institution. Opened by two brothers, the eatery offers plates of beef brisket, pork, chicken, turkey, hamburger steak, and sausage. On the lighter side, there are sandwiches and salads. A dessert menu featuring cobblers and icebox pies round things out.
Archibald’s BBQ (Northport)
Hickory-smoked ribs, pork butt, even a whole chicken—you can get it all at Archibald’s. Speaking of which, if you want a little bit of everything, check out the Mixed Plate, which comes with sliced pork, ribs, and white bread.
