Best Travel Planning Apps

These days, so many parts of our lives revolve around our phones, so it only makes sense that we should use our devices to plan our days, too. Fortunately, there are a plethora of apps designed to make juggling daily duties a breeze. Many to-do apps can easily morph into an efficient tool to plan your next trip. Check out some of our favorites below.

1. Schedule Planner

Schedule Planner is truly like a real-life calendar in an app, complete with color-coding, categorization, and the ability to view your schedule day-by-day. It also allows you to export your calendar to CSV or PDF format, along with any details or notes.

Schedule Planner is a great pick if you’re traveling somewhere with lots of sights on the agenda. For instance, on your next trip to D.C. you can pencil in when you expect to see the monuments or when your appointment times are at different attractions. The “planned” and “actual” tabs make it easy to see what needs to be moved to a different day.

2. Todoist

Todoist’s big draw is that its usable both online and offline, and across various platforms as well, so you can get things done even when you don’t have your phone in hand. You can also collaborate on shared tasks with others in real-time, and track the achievement of your goals and tasks over time. You’ll love the clutter-free, streamlined design, too.

We love using Todoist when planning a trip with a big group. Everyone can contribute to a list what they want to see and do, and assign priority levels. This will help decide what will please the most people and not leave anyone out.

3. Google Calendar

One of the most popular apps of its kind, Google Calendar has just about everything you want in a planner app: a variety of views, daily to-do lists, goals, and integration with iCloud and Exchange. One of the best features of GCal? Events, appointments, and travel plans are automatically added to your calendar from Gmail without you having to lift a finger.

Using Google’s product suite is especially helpful for business travel. It’s quick and easy to make appointments, set reminders, and view important information like flight times on any device.

4. Fantastical 2

Fantastical 2’s biggest strength is its versatility. Not only is it compatible with Google Calendar, iCloud, and Exchange, it offers the ability to toggle between different views in both landscape and portrait modes, and allows you to use natural language to create events quickly. Thoughtful extras like maps and travel time go a long way to create a robust calendar experience. It’s not free, but many loyal users find that their resulting productivity is well-worth the $5 price tag.

Fantastical 2 is a great choice if you have a packed schedule for an upcoming trip. It’s easy to access the week at a glance and see what you have coming up next.

5. Cozi Family Organizer

Any mom or dad’s secret weapon, Cozi is perfect for the family on the go. Color-code every member’s schedule, email individual agendas, store grocery lists and recipes, and set reminders with just a few taps. Everyone in the family can access the app, making it a breeze to keep it all together.

When getting ready for a trip, we’re big fans of Cozi’s list-making abilities. It’s perfect for organizing your packing list, and you can use a different color code for each person in the family to make sure nothing gets left behind. Best of all, the Family Journal function allows you to track travel memories and email them to friends and family.
