Festive lights AND awesome animals? What more could you want? Celebrate the season with these merry, bright, and festive zoo experiences.
From December 14 to January 6, this beloved zoo transforms into a winter wonderland. Well, minus the snow. But it’s complete with storytelling, live entertainment, and of course, dazzling light displays. Kids will also love the Polar Express 4-D experience.
It doesn’t get cozier than this: fires warm up chilly visitors as they admire the 80+ light sculptures. Plus, when you’re ready to take a break from the cold, you can head inside to explore some of the animal exhibits…or sit on Santa’s lap.
In its 25th year, the Lincoln Park Zoo’s holiday extravaganza is a much-anticipated annual event that draws revelers of all ages. Photos with Santa, live ice sculpture carving, 3D displays, carolers, and—for the grown-ups—beer and warm spiced wine. If that wasn’t enough, there are even more special events happening during Zoolights, like a craft beer festival, a holiday market, and even a new year’s celebration.
This Columbia, South Carolina zoo tradition is more than a quarter of a century old. Not only are live oak and palm trees properly glammed up for the holidays, but the event includes fun displays with the likes of flamingos, elephants, and flowers. Don’t miss the pièce de résistance: the Christmas tree that’s lights are synced to music.
Every year, the National Zoo is decked out with 50,000 lights, and for 2018, there’s even more excitement planned beyond the regularly-scheduled musical performances, shopping, and light shows set to music. This year, visitors can grab treats in the gingerbread village, challenge themselves on the holiday obstacle course, or hop on the “National Zoo Choo-Choo” train ride to enjoy the spectacle from a different perspective.
