There’s more to Orlando than Mickey Mouse and Harry Potter. In fact, there are a ton of places to enjoy inventive and tasty cuisine around town without emptying your wallet. Check out some of the top places to chow down in between theme park visits.
Kimchi’s Korean Grill
Delicious, inexpensive Korean cuisine in the middle of a shopping center? You better believe it. From staples like street tacos and BiBimBop to Grill Bowls and sides of Kimchi Stew, Pot Stickers, and Flour Pancakes, you certainly won’t leave Kimchi’s hungry. Though it’s open until 9 pm nightly, this unassuming counter-serve eatery is an especially popular spot for lunch.
For authentic, street-style tacos, look no further than Gringos Locos, a no-frills favorite with locations in downtown and the Milk District. The menu also boasts burritos, salads, chimichangas, enchiladas, and quesadillas, plus Mexican beers and tall boys. What more could you want? Night owls are in luck as well; both Gringos locations are open daily until 3 am.
Pom Pom’s Teahouse and Sandwicheria
A fixture in the Milk District for years, Pom Pom’s serves up unique sandwiches and all sorts of delicious teas in a small space in the Milk District. Chow down on the Turkey with Cranberry Ginger Chutney, the Seasonal Berry Melt, or the wacky Spicy Elvis (with banana, bacon, strawberry jelly, and cayenne peanut butter). Or, sip on Arabian Mint, Kiwi Pear, Chocolate Cream, or Gingerbread Orange varieties of tea.
Hawker’s Asian Street Fare
Hawker’s has taken the popular concept of food carts and turned it into a full-blown restaurant that still won’t break the bank. Order the Chicken Egg Rolls or their famous Signature Wings. The best part? Unlike its street cart counterparts, you won’t need to scout out a section of sidewalk to enjoy your grub.
Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers
This diner-style eatery is the perfect place to satisfy those cravings for burgers, fries, and frozen custard (it’s like ice cream, but made with egg yolks in addition to milk and cream). Save room for a Dirt ‘n Worms Sundae, Turtle Concrete, or Cake Cone after you enjoy a Patty Melt, Steakburger, or good ol’ fashioned Hot Dog.
Lazy Moon Pizza
A favorite among students of the nearby University of Central Florida, Lazy Moon is all about big slices and even bigger flavors. To, um, top it all off, the pizzeria has a massive beer menu and on-site bocce courts.
