Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Cinco de Mayo is observed around the world as a celebration of Latin heritage and culture. It addition it recognizes the victory of the Mexican army against the French in 1862. Say “Ole!,” pour a margarita, and kick up your heels at one of these parties across the country.

 

San Antonio, Texas

Held in the city’s vibrant Market Square, San Antonio’s three-day Cinco de Mayo party is an authentic, all-out fiesta. There is plenty of food, drinks, music, and dancing. You’ll have your pick of margarita and Mexican food specials at the many restaurants and bars in the area as well.

New York, New York

Perhaps the best part of the NYC Cinco de Mayo Celebration is the margarita crawl, put on by area pubs and bars. Head to Central Park West for a fun parade with floats, dancers, and mariachi tunes. For active types, the Club Atletico Mexicano de Nueva York has been hosting a 5k for the better part of the past two decades.

 Chicago, Illinois

Like NYC, the Windy City has its own grown-up pub crawl for those of legal drinking age. Furthermore families also have plenty of ways to celebrate. The Lawndale neighborhood hosts an annual parade that rolls down Sacramento Avenue, and you’ll find holiday menus and festivities at nearly all of the city’s Mexican eateries.

 San Francisco, CA

The Mission District in San Francisco is the place to be for Cinco de Mayo. Around 8,000 people attend the festival each year and enjoy performances by talented locals. Including musicians, artisan goods, and crafts. most noteworthy, delicious Mexican and Latino foods. In addition, little ones will also love the designated kid’s area. It offers arts and crafts to keep them occupied.

Phoenix, AZ

Spread out across the greater Phoenix area, celebrations range from Chihuahua races and live music to street fairs. Downtown Phoenix’s event, which has been running for 24 years, even hosts its own Lucha Libre match: a Mexican wrestling tradition that pits two masked warriors against each other in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Los Angeles, CA

There are two significant ways to spend your Cinco in L.A. First, check out Fiesta Broadway, the largest party of its kind in the country which is full of vendors, music, carnival rides, and food. Next is a celebration at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, complete with traditional Mexican storytelling and a dance party.
