If you’ve ever seen the classic movie Big you’ll remember the iconic scene of Tom Hanks’ character playing a giant piano on the floor of the famous toy store FAO Schwartz. No doubt it made you want to run to your nearest toy store and play around for a little while, even if you weren’t exactly a kid anymore.
Still want to re-create that feeling?
Well, you can. There are plenty of toy stores across the US that can give you all of the fun and enjoyment for all of those still ‘young at heart.’
In this post, we’re going to share a few of them. So get your wish list ready and let’s go!
In 2015, FAO Schwartz closed the doors of it’s famous New York City store. But, in a positive turn of events, they decided to reopen. Although you’ll find them in a new location at Rockefeller Plaza, you don’t want to miss out on a chance to spend some time in the biggest toy store in New York.
The Dinosaur Farm
The Dinosaur Farm bills itself as ‘not your average toy store.’ Set foot inside and it’s easy to see why. This place is filled with everything dino-related you can imagine, from giant inflatable T-Rex’s to prehistoric puzzles and other games. This Pasadena, California toy store is the perfect pit stop for anyone who loves dinosaurs.
American Girl Place
If there is a special someone in your life who loves American Girl books and dolls, or if you loved them yourself when you were a kid, make sure you head to Chicago’s American Girl Place. At over 50,000 square feet, the store offers more than just toys but shows, activities and events, and even tea time for visitors.
Charles Ro Supply Company
While the name doesn’t exactly evoke a toy store, the Charles Ro Supply Company might be better known as America’s largest toy train shop. Located right outside Boston, it’s a model train lover’s dream. It covers 50,000 square feet of store and showroom, and if you visit on a Saturday, you’ll find six train sets in action.
The LEGO Store
There are almost 100 LEGO stores across the United States, but the LEGO Store at Minnesota’s Mall of America is a big favorite. It has thousands of square feet devoted to the world’s favorite building blocks. You can find everything from the old school sets of your youth to brand new special edition sets that you won’t see anywhere else.
This Seattle, Washington institution has been drawing toy lovers for close to forty years. What makes Archie McPhee’s so interesting is it’s wacky and wild collection of toys. If you want to play with everything ranging from rubber chickens to bacon-flavored air fresheners, this is the spot for you. It’s easy to spend hours lost in the aisles here!
These are just a handful of our favorite toy stores across the US. If you’re in any of these cities, plan to stay a few hours, turn off your mobile devices, and enjoy being a kid again. You’ll have a great time, we guarantee it!
