While you can’t go far and wide, there are still plenty of ways to get away in your imagination with these ideas.
1. Escape via Book, TV Show, or Movie
Check out travel memoirs like Lunch in Paris and Four Seasons in Rome, shows like Parts Unknown, No Reservations, or Ugly Delicious, or movies like Into the Wild or Under the Tuscan Sun.
2. Try a Virtual Walking Tour
It turns out that you can experience just about every city around the world from the comfort of your couch, courtesy of YouTube. From Amsterdam to Zurich, just search for the city you want to stroll and escape for a little bit. It’s almost as good as being there!
3. Go Back to Basics
Tap back into the simple pleasures of life—it’s the perfect time. Whether it’s playing a board game, taking a hike, doing yoga, or reconnecting with friends and family via phone call or FaceTime, these small activities can go a long way to lift your spirits and retain a sense of normalcy.
4. Make a Scrapbook of Your Favorite Travel Photos
While you’re slowing down, why not take some time to put together your favorite pictures from past trips? The process will help you relive the good times and remind you that there is plenty more to look forward to in the future.
5. Cook a Delicious Meal
Preferably from an international cookbook, or a copycat recipe for a dish from your favorite restaurant. The process of cooking can be relaxing, take your mind off of stressful issues, and give you something tangible (and tasty) to enjoy at the end of the process!
6. Plan Your Next Trip
As tough as it may seem to believe right now, there will be a day when it’s safe to travel again. So why not use this downtime to daydream a bit about the destinations you want to visit and experiences you want to have when this time is behind us?
