It’s easy to get a little homesick when you’re traveling. You can’t possibly pack absolutely everything you might need and there are always those few pesky items you forget. Despite the discomforts of living out of a suitcase, though, there are several ways you can make your hotel room feel a little bit more like home.
Bring Items That Make You Feel at Home
Although it’s wise to pack light, you don’t have to forgo the essential items you use religiously at home. Purchase travel-sized bottles and containers to put your favorite body wash, shampoo and conditioner in if you don’t like using the hotel’s supply. Pack small amounts of your skincare products that will make you feel right at home and don’t neglect your normal beauty routines. If you have a favorite pillow that helps you sleep, bring it. As long as you don’t go overboard trying to bring your whole house, a few homey comforts will make your trip more enjoyable and relaxing.
Be Smart With Your Tech
Another essential you have at home is Internet access. Some hotels offer a Wi-Fi code free of charge, so take advantage of it. However, some hotels charge you a fee to gain access to their Wi-Fi, so be aware of the charges and some workarounds. For example, while wireless internet may not be included, you usually have a wired access point that you can access with a travel router and ethernet cable. Most hotels have an ethernet jack somewhere in or near the desk, which will give you Internet access when you need it to finish some work, check social media or video chat with your family.
Use a Cup as a Portable Speaker
If you listen to music to relax, love singing in the shower or have people over to your hotel room, use a cup that the hotel provides as a speaker. All you have to do is turn on your favorite tune, place your phone inside the cup and let it amplify the sound of the music. Just be sure to keep it down in the evening and to be considerate of the rooms around you. Make sure you download your favorite playlists or have Wi-Fi access to use a streaming service like Spotify or Pandora.
