Sometimes you just need to get away from it all, but without the hassle of planning an intensive trip. A staycation is a great way to unwind, step away from stress, and remember why you love where you live. (Don’t forget to share your staycation photos in our contest!) For a foolproof staycation, just follow these five steps.
1. Take the pressure off.
Even if you don’t plan to venture further than your front door, it can seem daunting to come up with enough activities to fill up your time when you’re used to a super-structured schedule. If you find yourself in a lull, don’t panic — just try to enjoy the quiet time and bask in the glow of relaxation!
2. Play tourist in your own town.
You know all of those cheesy attractions that you never had the time to see, or never prioritized because you figured you’d get around to them someday? That day has arrived! There’s no better time to visit a museum, take a trolley tour, or check out that amusement park you keep hearing about.
3. Resist the urge to work.
In a world where you’re constantly plugged in, the temptation to catch up on work emails and see what’s going on with that big project is always there. While you don’t have to completely unplug from the 9-to-5, it can be helpful to recognize when your mind is at the office and make a conscious effort to move your thoughts elsewhere.
The best part of getting some time off is having the chance to connect with those you care about. Plan a fun date night with your significant other, or call up your long-lost pal to catch up over lunch. Not only will it feel good to spend some quality time with your sweetie or friend, but chatting with them might give you a fresh perspective on your life as well.
5. Pamper yourself.
When you get caught up in the busy day-to-day routine, it’s easy to overlook your own needs to take care of your family or job responsibilities. Relish the opportunity to do a few things just for you: spend a day at the spa, lose yourself in a good book, or simply catch up on your favorite TV shows. If you typically prepare dinner for your family every night, take the week off and try grabbing takeout from your favorite restaurants for a change. Even the most minor change can help you recharge your batteries and boost your mood.
