How to Plan The Ultimate California Getaway

By Kim Windyka • June 26, 2020 • Places

It’s always a good time to experience all that the Golden State has to offer. Keep these tips in mind for your next CA vacation.

1. Pick a theme

There are a lot of places to go and things to do in California, so it helps to narrow down your focus ahead of time to ensure the best trip possible. Are you in the mood for a wine tasting trip? How about a classic beach vacation? Or maybe a sightseeing drive down the coast? Half the fun is deciding!

2. Lock in your accommodations

It helps to plan your stay around the type of experience that you want to have since your choice will go a long way toward making your trip super memorable. For example, if a more outdoorsy and rustic vacation is what you’re after, check out a cool treehouse or decked-out Airstream trailer on Airbnb. Or if a luxurious seaside getaway is more your speed, try a romantic, upscale bed and breakfast.

3. Consider pre-planned experiences

Today, more than ever, there are so many options for spending a day—and often, you don’t even have to take care of most of the logistics! Between Airbnb experiences and sites like Viator that offer full-day tours through third party companies, simply plug in your destination and explore a multitude of fun day trips that cover everything from vineyards to celebrity spotting.

4. Be flexible with dates

Unlike places with more extreme seasonal weather, like, say, Florida, California’s climate is more consistent, so there’s not as huge of a fluctuation when it comes to prices. However, there are some best bets when it comes to booking your trip. If you’re looking for the best deals, try the weeks in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. If it’s good beach weather you’re after, May through October are usually pretty close to perfect.
