With Spring just rolling in, you probably haven’t begun thinking of your Summer vacation plans yet. But, sandy beaches and mojitos will be here before you know it. Make sure you have enough money saved up to get you where you want to go.
Here are 5 quick tips to get you there and 3 more for once you’re on your actual vacation.
Save for Vacation
Open a Vacation Account
Out of sight, out of mind, right? So, open up a separate savings account to help you grow money without being tempted to spend any of it. Set up some automatic transfers and let the money sit, sit, sit.
Have a bonus you weren’t expecting? Don’t even look at it. Toss it in there too. You will be pleasantly surprised at the very end at how much you were able to squirrel away.
Get a Side Hustle
If you aren’t able to put enough money aside with your job alone, consider taking on a second part-time one. And again, any money you make from it can be directly deposited into the account you set up. If you’re unable to work a second job away from home, you can look online for projects you can do from home. Or, if you have a talent like sewing, writing, cooking, drawing – you might consider making and selling some items.
Sell Unused Items
While you’re doing your much-needed Spring cleaning, take note. Put aside items you haven’t used in a while and considering selling them on a second-hand item app. Furniture, clothes, appliances, books, etc. You could easily make a couple of hundred dollars this way.
Trim the Fat
Subscriptions easily multiply and take money out of your account every month that could be used someplace else. In this case, vacation! Go through and weed out the ones you can do without. For example, if you have several streaming services, cut it down to the main one you use. Sometimes, you will find automatic subscriptions coming out every month that you forgot about and don’t even use. Track them down and put an end to them.
Before you make any new purchase, take a pause. Give yourself a few minutes, or a few days if you can to decide if you really need it or if you simply want it. There is a difference. Put an end to impulse purchases.
Save More During Vacation
You made it to vacation as scheduled! Hoorah! But that doesn’t mean the saving has to stop there.
Who doesn’t love a good coupon? And you can find them in a number of places for vacations. For starters: Hotel coupons! After you have your hotel accommodations figured out, take a peek at what Groupons are available for restaurants and entertainment in the areas you are visiting.
Room with Friends and Family
If you’re traveling with friends or family, cut the price of your hotel in half simply by rooming with a group of people. Another tip is to find someplace with a kitchen, so you can eat more meals inside versus fast food. Also, free continental breakfast is another win!
Find Free Fun
You can find free fun in just about any city. A lot of museums offer free days or pay-what-you-can days. You can also look for free tours, street music, street festivals, parks, beaches, etc.
