There’s plenty to see and do during a summer stay in Key West- Sun bathe, fish, shop, sip margaritas, and museum hop. There’s also plenty to eat. Summer is mango season in the keys and the locals love to celebrate this tropical fruit.
Who?
Calling all mango lovers!
If you love Florida and mangoes, you likely already know summertime is mango season. But what you might not know yet is Key West has fairly new tradition called Mango Fest.
Going on its 5th annual mango celebration this year, don’t miss out on all the mangonificent fun!
What?
Mangoes, mangoes, and more mangoes. According to their website, its the best mango festival in the world!
During the event, you can look forward to a mango brunch (complete with mango mimosas and mango jam), a variety of vendors with -surprise- every kind of mango product your hungry heart could hope for (hello, mango salsa and mango ice cream!), photo contests, culinary demonstrations, and cocktail demonstrations. At past events, there have even been 5k runs and mango-themed scavenger hunts.
Where and When?
This year’s event will take place in Bayview Park from Thursday, June 24 to Sunday, June 27, 2021. Click here for more information and tickets.
Why?
Mangoes are good for you. They’re naturally sweet and diet friendly, and they are packed with fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Plus, they’re easy to eat and just plain satisfying.
What’s doubly sweet is that the proceeds from Mango Fest helps the local PAL (Police Athletic League) program fundraise money for kids in the community. In fact, the event was founded by a PAL board member and K9 detective, Jesse Hammers who wanted to turn his love of mangoes into something extra good.
