If you’re a beer fanatic, and even if you’re not, you’ve undoubtedly heard of the brand Yuengling.
What you might not know is, this brand is the oldest brewery in America, established all the way back in 1829. And you can visit it in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Which is a city just about two hours from Philadelphia.
Today, it remains one of the top breweries for craft beer in the entire country. While you can find it in numerous bars and restaurants across the country, why not head straight to the source for a truly authentic experience?
In this post, we will tell you more about it.
The best way to get to Yuengling is to drive, and street, meter, and lot parking is available. The experience takes you through the history of the brewery and behind the scenes of the beer-making process. We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say that you won’t want to miss the totally Instagram-worthy caves that served as the former storage space for the beers—and were dug by hand! They’re not in use today, but they still make for a super cool (and unique) experience!
Take a Tour
The brewery offers free tours for all ages, every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every 45 minutes on Saturdays.
You don’t need reservations for groups of 15 people or less, but you can call the brewery directly to schedule a tour for a large crew. Leave your flip-flops at home, as closed-toe shoes are required for all tours. If you forgot your sneakers, however, you can purchase a pair at the brewery.
And what’s better than a free brewery tour? The free beer you receive at the end of it! Stick around for a complimentary tasting (or two) of the varieties on tap that day—if you’re of age. Younger visitors can enjoy soda instead. Of course, there’s also a gift shop full of all things Yuengling. Commemorate the experience with a koozie, piece of clothing, a bottle opener, souvenir glass, or even some Yuengling ice cream.
