Memphis, Tennessee, is a city rich with musical history. It’s known as both the “Home of the Blues” and the “Birthplace of Rock and Roll,”. Therefore, there really is no better place to house the factory that creates the legendary Gibson guitars. These guitars are trusted and used around the world by professional and amateur musicians alike.
Planning Your Visit
Located on blues haven Beale Street, the Gibson guitar factory offers tours 7 days a week. These tours are offered almost hourly. Tours are offered from 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Saturday. In addition, from 12 pm to 3 pm on Sundays. Tickets are priced at $10 (only persons age 5 and over permitted), and advanced reservations are recommended.
You can book your tour here, which will also let you see if your desired tour time is already sold out. One thing to note is that some online reviews suggest that production is halted on the weekends. Therefore, keep that in mind when reserving your tour.
The Guided Tour
During the 45 minute tour of the Gibson Beale Street Showcase, you’ll witness Gibson’s world-class luthiers work their magic through every stage of instrument production. From fitting the guitar’s neck to painting the guitar every color under the sun. Also, they will buff it to a sparkle and everything in between.
Gibson’s enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable tour guides will regale you with the history not just of the factory and the guitars themselves–think behind-the-scenes stories of famous rock stars–but also of the musical tradition of Memphis itself.
And don’t forget to stop by the retail store where you can purchase your own guitar and be on your way to stardom!
