Take a Biloxi Weekend Getaway

By Liz Froment • May 26, 2018 • Places, Travel

For a long time, Biloxi, Mississippi has been a hidden gem known only to those who lived, worked, and played along the Gulf Coast. Well, times have changed, and now Biloxi is getting national recognition as a great vacation and relaxation destination in the Gulf Coast region.

A Biloxi weekend getaway could be just what the doctor ordered this year! It has plenty of things to see and do as well as easy access from some major cities in the South.

In this post, we’re going to share all of the fun things you can do during a Biloxi weekend getaway; So get your bags packed and ready to go!

Getting There

Biloxi is right off Interstate 10 which travels across the southern part of the United States. Because of its location off a major highway, it’s easy to get to for those wanting to drive for a quick weekend trip.

Biloxi is only an hour from Mobile, Alabama, and under two hours from New Orleans, Pensacola, and Hattiesburg.

If you’re looking to fly, there are two local airports. One is about 20 miles from Biloxi city center, the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. The other is in Mobile.

Things to Do

There are a ton of things to do in Biloxi. So, you’ll probably want to return again and again!

Casinos

Biloxi is a big draw for people who love to gamble. Nope, you don’t have to head to Las Vegas to try your hand at poker or slots in a beautifully appointed high-quality casino.

And don’t think you have to be a gambler to enjoy Biloxi’s casinos. In fact, most if not all, offer everything from dining options to spas (perfect for a couples’ massage) as well as live shows and entertainment.

The Beaches

What’s a relaxing weekend in Biloxi without spending some time at the area beaches? There are at least 10 beautiful sanding beaches in and around Biloxi and the surrounding towns of Gulfport and Ocean Springs.

The closest is Biloxi Beach, which is right downtown. Some of the other local favorites include Front Beach and Mississippi Gulf Coast Beach. And while you’re on the lookout, don’t forget to head to the eastern side of town to see the Biloxi Lighthouse.

Ship Island

If you’re looking to journey further afield for an incredible beach and history lesson, then you’ll want to visit Ship Island. You can take a ferry right from Biloxi and spend the day here.

The island features not only some pristine beaches but also Fort Massachusetts which was built after the War of 1812 to defend the region.

History and Culture

The Gulf Coast region also has plenty of history as well, dating back hundreds of years. Civil War scholars can head to Beauvoir, which was the retirement home of Jefferson Davis, former President of the Confederacy.

You can even visit the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum to learn how these two industries have played such a vital role in the region.

Also, art enthusiasts will love the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum. It’s home to a variety of modern and abstract art.

Have Fun!

Of course, an essential part of any Biloxi weekend getaway is to relax and have fun. We’re sure you’ll be excited to visit again very soon!
