This is unlike any pool you’ve ever gone swimming in. It’s a historic, freshwater swimming pool with caves, waterfalls and over 800,000 gallons of freshwater that get pumped in daily. It’s the only pool on the National Register of Historic Places.
The best way to cool off after a trip to the Ft. Lauderdale or Dania beach is with a sundae from Jaxson’s, a neighborhood favorite for over 60 years.
No doubt about it, the housemade ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream will all be the main stars during your visit. But, there’s also a full menu of all-American favorites like hamburgers, hot dogs, onion rings that are every bit as delicious also.
Don’t fret if you walk up to find a line, it’s worth the wait. Besides the ice cream- it’s fun-loving atmosphere and memorabilia makes it one unforgettable stop.
Ride an airboat in the Everglades (Homestead)
The Everglades is the biggest subtropical wilderness in all of the United States. That’s something to see, don’t you think?
Inside, you can explore wildlife, hike, bike, canoe, kayak, fish, and even camp. A popular way to tour the area is on an airboat ride, where a knowledgeable guide can explain the history of the area, and show you flora, fauna, and alligators up close and personal.
Snorkel in the Devil’s Den (Williston)
Florida has hundreds of beautiful springs, and any of them is worth checking out. But, if you’re looking for a unique spring to snorkel, scuba or just swim in, consider this privately owned prehistoric “Devil’s Den.” It gets its name from a 15-foot snake called the “Devil” that was believed to inhabit the area in the 19th century. The cave was formed by a karst window when the river collapsed and exposed the water to the open surface.
Even if you’re visiting during summertime in Florida, you can expect the spring to be chilly. The water stays at about 76 degrees.
Swim with Dolphins
Next to the alligator, another animal associated with Florida is the dolphin. If swimming with one sounds like a dream come true for you, there are several places where you can make it happen.
