Traveling is unflattering, plain and simple. Being cramped into any space for a long period of time is bound to take its toll on your appearance. Clothes wrinkle, makeup smudges and hair takes on a rebellious mind of its own. Luckily, a little bit of prepping before hand can prepare you for the worst and help you look your best when you are at the mercy of transportation. Here are some easy tips and tools for men and women to travel in style:
One of the most efficient ways of freshening up without access to a full shower is to carry flushable wet wipes. These little guys have tons of applications during your flight or drive. Not only are they good for a quick freshen up, but they also can come in handy if any spills or accidents occur in transit.
For the ladies, you’ve probably noticed that bras, at least the molded-cup variety, take up significant space in your luggage. When traveling, you want to have access to a variety of bras for different occasions and outfits, but avoid having them hog your limited suitcase real estate. In general, it’s best to pack three bras: an everyday bra, a convertible bra and a sports bra.
Another tip is to carry an extra set of undergarments in your carry-on. This gives you the option to change bras if you’re wearing one that becomes uncomfortable mid-journey. And, if your baggage is lost, at least you have clean underwear!
Although this tip is intended for the fellas, it’s not a bad idea for women to carry an electric razor as well. For men, just the act of travel seems to speed up that five o’clock shadow. Maybe it’s something to do with the time change. Regardless, a good cordless, compact razor is a must for men who travel. A quick buzz in the car or plane keeps you from looking like a neanderthal when you arrive at your destination.
Nothing makes you feel as unclean as a dirty mouth. After chomping down on airport food or fast food, you may feel as though your teeth are wearing sweaters. A small toothbrush and tube of toothpaste de-funk your mouth in a jiffy.
Particularly when you’re traveling by bus or car, a restroom with hot, soapy water is not going to be easily accessible. A quick squirt of hand sanitizer vigorously rubbed between the palms does the trick for a few hundred miles. It’s portable and many hand sanitizers double as a deodorizer.
Always carry a towel. If we learned anything from Douglas Adams’ novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” it’s that there are 101 uses for a simple towel. It can be used for clean up, folded over for a pillow or used as an absorbent napkin.
In all, traveling doesn’t have to be a traumatic experience where you deplane or emerge from the vehicle in shambles. Take a few tips along for the ride and travel in style.
